Quentin Tarantino's on-off western The Hateful Eight will officially start shooting in January, ahead of a Fall 2015 release.
The news comes directly from The Weinstein Company who also confirmed that the movie will be shot on 70mm, indicating once again that the Pulp Fiction director is not a fan of the digital revolution.
Here is part of the statement from the production company:
We are incredibly excited to begin production on?The Hateful Eight, as we know this picture will be as innovative, brash, and of course fun as all Quentin projects prior.
There is, quite simply, no other filmmaker like him, and we are as proud as ever to continue this partnership that started over twenty years ago.
A teaser trailer was also screened before showings of Frank Miller and Robert Rodriquez’s Sin City: A Dame To Kill For,?which stated at the end "See it in glorious 70mm (SUPER CINEMASCOPE)."
Indeed, because the majority of Hollywood films are now digital, Paramount Pictures has stopped using film completely, The Hateful Eight will have the largest distribution of any 70mm film in over 20 years.
The project, which will be QT’s second western in succession after Django Unchained, was briefly scrapped by the filmmaker after the script was leaked online.
However, the Oscar winning writer quickly redrafted the screenplay and is now in the process of casting the movie.
While the cast has not been confirmed, actors who were attached before the leaking fiasco included Bruce Dern,?Kurt Russell,?Michael Madsen, Tim Roth, and Samuel L. Jackson.
Jennifer Lawrence,?who has suffered her own leaking scandal this week, is rumored to be in talks over a starring role in the picture.
Here’s a synopsis:
The Hateful Eight?follows the steadily ratcheting tension that develops after a blizzard diverts a stagecoach from its route, and traps a pitiless and mistrustful group which includes a competing pair of bounty hunters, a renegade Confederate soldier, and a female prisoner in a saloon in the middle of nowhere.
