Ridley Scott has confirmed that he is ready to shoot Blade Runner 2, at the expense of Prometheus 2.
The legendary director’s next two projects are biblical epic Exodus: Gods and Kings (which will be released December 2014) and The Martian, starring Matt Damon (which is scheduled for release in November 2015).
While it was expected that the Prometheus follow-up would be released in 2016, Scott told EW that Blade Runner 2, which has been written by Michael Green and Hampton Fancher (who co-wrote the original), is at the front of the queue.
He said: “It's written and it's damn good. Of course it involves Harrison, who is a survivor after all these yearsdespite the accident. (Ford's Star Wars injury) So yes, that will happen"
He added: "Probably after (The Martian). That's the problem, I've got a lot of ducks in a row. But they're all written"
Interestingly actor Ford, who appeared in the 1982 original which was based on a Philip K. Dick novel, has yet to confirm whether he is taking part in the sci-fi sequel, although judging by Scott’s statement, he looks certain to sign on. The producers certainly were public with their hopes of Ford returning.
Fans of Prometheus – which was a prequel to the director’s classic Alien (1979) – will be hugely disappointed by this news.
However considering the 76-year-old Scott‘s work rate, they may not have to wait too long. Indeed co-star Michael Fassbender has already confirmed that he has signed on for the sequel, which has also been written by Green Lantern (2011) scribe Green.
Stay tuned for more Blade Runner 2 and Prometheus 2 news.
