Between Marvel Studios, DC/WB, Fox (X-Men, Fantastic Four), and Sony (Spider-Man), be prepared for superhero overload

Warner Bros., in what is surely related to Marvel Studios and Disney planting their flags for the next several years, upped the ante by scheduling films all the way to 2020. Nine of those films are DC Comics movies, two WB event films, and two animated films.
Here’s the list, for the curious:
The DC films kick off with a date change of March 25, 2016 from May 6, 2016 for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. This is the second time they changed the date for this film, but this time it was caused by a game of chicken between Marvel and DC, since Captain America 3 is scheduled for that date.
The Warner Bros. animated films are rumored to be the sequels or spin-offs to The Lego Movie and the Untitled WB Event Films are almost certainly parts 2 and 3 of the Harry Potter spin-off films, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. The DC comics movies can be anything but taking a cue from the characters showing up in Dawn of Justice, you can bet we’ll get another Superman movie, a Batman movie and a Wonder Woman movie, while Joseph Gordon-Levitt is hard at work on The Sandman.
Other characters that are rumored, or nearly confirmed, to appear in Dawn of Justice include Shazam, Aquaman, and Cyborg. That’s good enough to fill seven of the nine films, with two left over for Justice League 2 and Justice League 3. There’s still the rumored Flash/Green Lantern film that could possibly fill in either Aquaman or Cyborg. I hate to say it, but not many people are familiar with Cyborg, so I’d be surprised if he got his own film.
With this release calendar in place, I have to hope you really like comic book movies. 2017 is going to be one hell of a year with three Marvel Studios movies, two Spider-Man movies, a Fantastic Four sequel, a solo Wolverine film, and now two more DC films for a total of nine films. Just look at this crazy schedule:
The Spider-Man spin-off films don’t have a date locked in yet, but I would hazard that one will come out in April/May, with the other sometime in either August or in the fall. We’ve been hearing about superhero burnout, but it will be in these next six years that we’ll learn how much staying power comic book movies actually have.
