Production wrapped on the fifth Terminator film and Arnold Schwarzenegger took to Instagram and Facebook to thank the cast and crew for all their hard work. In the image he posted, you see him sitting in a chair with the title of the next Terminator film emblazoned on it.
Here’s what he said on Facebook as well as the image is posted below (via his Instagram); we’ll get back to my reaction shortly:
Hasta la vista, baby. I want to thank the cast and crew of Terminator Genisys for a fantastic shoot,” he wrote. “It was challenging, it was fun, and it was rewarding. From our director to the producers, from the camera team to catering, from visual effects to hair and makeup – we couldn’t have done it without you. I can’t wait to see our finished project and I know we’ll remind the fans why they fell in love with the Terminator. On July 1, 2015, I’ll be back.
Terminator Genisys?
For the past while, we’ve heard the title of the next film as Terminator: Genesis, which made sense since it’s apparently a soft reboot of the series by going back to the beginning, and sending the series off in a new direction, complete with an aging T-800 (Arnold).
But Terminator Genisys Why not call it iTerminator?
Ok, I realize I’m being a bit harsh here, but there seems to be a current trend of dumb titles for films, with the latest top offender being Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Hollywood, please stop trying to be cute with your titles.
There may be a good reason for the title of the film to be called that. The ‘sys’ part in ‘Genisys’ obviously seems to indicate a computer system of some kind (and is the character played by Doctor Who’s Matt Smith somehow connected to the program), which may or may not play into the larger plot of the film — but let’s be honest here, they’re just trying to be cute with the title.
Even if there is a computer (or maybe a company) called Genisys in the film, they could still call the film Terminator: Genesis, and no one would bat an eye. Maybe they’ll name the next Terminator film,Terminator ExoDOS.
Yeah, that one is for you old school computer users.
In the end, I guess the name won’t affect the quality level of the film. The series have gone steadily downhill from the second outing (though our Web Content Manager Heath McKnight loved Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines), so hopefully they can get back on track with the fifth film — it can’t be any worse than Terminator Salvation, right?
I guess we’ll see when Terminator Genisys comes out July 1, 2015, from director Alan Taylor (Thor: The Dark World, another ‘iffy’ title).
