Marvel is ten for ten with its new release of Guardians of the Galaxy. Every single one of the past ten films has made a big pile of money at the box office, and it looks like Marvel is going to continue that upward trajectory.
Now that Guardians has been released, Marvel fans are looking forward to the next film just around the corner to close up Phase: Two of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, The Avengers: Age of Ultron. I got a chance to see the trailer for the film, and it looks to really up the ante for the Avengers.
But this is also Marvel, and fans want to know about the long game. With nine months to go before Age of Ultron hits the screens, questions about the third Avengers outing are already being asked. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige in an interview with Comic Book Resources gave us a little hint as to when we’ll see the next Avengers film after Age of Ultron:
Well, we haven't really talked about what we'd see Avengers 3. I presume we'd like to stick to three years between Avengers movies like we did [between the first and second]. So it will probably be three years between Avengers 2 and Avengers 3.
What most people speculated was that we would get an extended wait time between Avengers: Age of Ultron and Avengers 3 since Marvel announced a list of release dates that culminated on May 3, 2019. May is the month that both Avengers movies have had their release dates.
With that in mind, here’s what Marvel’s calendar looks like so far. The titles in italics are speculated release dates:
Of course, just because Feige has said it’ll be three years between Avengers 2 and Avengers 3 doesn’t mean it will premiere in May. I’ve already had a hunch that Avengers 3 will be a two parter ,much in the same way the last installments of Harry Potter, Twilight, and Hunger Games. It seems to me that a four-hour-plus story would be a truly epic way to end the Thanos arc.
And wouldn’t you know it, November 2, 2018 is also 3 years away from Age of Ultron with May 3, 2019 wrapping up the second half of a two part story story. I know I’m really gung-ho on this concept and there is zero proof that Marvel will go this way but I can’t dislodge it from my head. Plus, if I turn out to be right, I get to say that you heard it here first. Of course, there is also the rumor of a Guardians of the Galaxy/Avengers crossover, too.
Avengers: Age of Ultron hits screens May 1, 2015.
