The Evil Dead will be resurrected on the small screen, according to creator Sam Raimi.
As we reported over the weekend, the Spider-Man director, who helmed the original trilogy, revealed at Comic-Con that he, his brother Ivan, and actor Bruce Campbell are working on the television series.
Of course this is not the first time Raimi has tried to revisit the subject matter.
Last year, first time helmer Fede Alvarez directed a reboot of the original movie, which Raimi produced. Prior that film’s release, there were suggestions that Raimi would direct Evil Dead 4 (aka Army of Darkness 2), which would eventually merge with Alvarez’s property.
However, when the reboot was released, just when fan excitement was beginning to build for the potential crossover, Alvarez walked away from the planned sequel, leading to the extended universe plans to be scrapped. In addition, Campbell said the news was just a rumor.
There has never really been an explanation for what actually happened, although the whole episode can only be described as a total fiasco.
But it seems Raimi’s enthusiasm for the property which launched his career, and in many ways will always define him as an artist, remains undiminished.
Fans will also be delighted that star Campbell, who played the iconic Ash in the original films and cameoed in the reboot, will be involved in the series.
Stay tuned for Evil Dead TV developments, including production and casting news.
