We’ve known about Marvel’s plans to expand the cinematic universe to Netflix, via several new TV series, and we’ve know that the first of those series, Daredevil, was set to premiere in 2015 — but the question has been, “When in 2015″?
Now we have an answer to that, during the last Marvel panel at the San Diego Comic Con, Marvel Chief Creative Officer Joe Quesada revealed that the series would hit screens in May of 2015. While no exact date was released we’re relatively sure that all 13 episodes will be released at the same time for your binge watching pleasure.
Most of the story is still under wraps and Quesada didn’t illuminate more than that. While he said it would be exciting to see Daredevil interact with Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and Luke Cage in The Defenders series he remained tight lipped on whether there would be any cross overs with any of those characters during the Daredevil series proper.
Now’s a good time to step back and look at the ever emerging plans Marvel has for it’s Cinematic Universe (which now includes 3 television series that aren’t in cinemas). We’ve had the dates released for a series of as of yet untitled Marvel films and release dates for Daredevil, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and Agent Carter. The timeline is starting to look extremely interesting, if you ask me– here’s what I mean.
After Guardians of the Galaxy, our next foray into the MCU will be the first half of the second season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. between September 23, 2014 and December 16, 2015. Then we get 8 episodes of Agent Carter, probably starting January 6, 2015 and ending February 24, 2015. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. then picks up around March 3, 2015 for another straight run of 9 episodes that concludes June 28, 2015 just 2 days before Avengers: Age of Ultron comes out. Daredevil looks to pick up in the aftermath of Age of Ultron and continue from there.
The May 2015 release date for that show may mean that we’ll get a new Netflix series every May for the next five years that will culminate in The Defenders come 2019. If May 2019 sounds like a familiar date for Marvel, it’s because the last of that list of Marvel films is dated for May 3, 2019. Presumably, that is the date Marvel’s Phase: Three comes to a close with Avengers 3. If Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. stays on the air until the 6th season, that’s a good time for a series finale as well as The Defenders will premiere.
This is all, of course, conjecture since we don’t know when Avengers 3 will premiere or what the release dates for the rest of the Netflix series will be. But it does track quite nicely.
