Daredevil, Marvel's first of four Netflix series, will be hitting the streaming service come 2015. The cast has already started to fill in with Charlie Cox, as the man without fear while Elden Henson will be playing Matt Murdock's best friend and business partner Foggy Nelson. Rosario Dawson has been cast in an as-of-yet unspecified role, and the great Vincent D'Onofrio is an inspired choice for Daredevil arch-nemesis The Kingpin.
Adding to that, two more characters have been cast for the series. First up, Deadline is reporting that Falling Skies actor Peter Shinkoda will be playing a character named Hachiro. If you don't know that name from the Daredevil comics, it's because he will be an original character created specifically for the show.
Other than the name Hachiro, and the fact that it's a major role in the series, nothing is really known about the character. So far The Kingpin is the only bad guy cast for the show, so I'm going to go out on a limb and say that he may be a henchman or another villain for the show.
The other new cast member will be played by Deborah Ann Woll from True Blood, and her character is from the comic books. Variety says that Woll playing the character Karen Page who works for and eventually has a relationship with Matt Murdock.
Karen Page is one of the original characters introduced in Daredevil #1 back in 1964, but she's best remembered from the classic Frank Miller run where she tries to become an actress, but eventually slides into drug addiction and despair. I doubt we'll be getting that story with these 13 episodes, although we're still not sure how dark Marvel intends to go with the Netflix series.
Speaking of the look of the Daredevil series, Latino Review has published a few spy photos from the set that’s currently shooting in New York city. The PAs and grips were telling people it was for a show called Bluff, but since it features a young boy saying “I can’t see,” and an accident involving a toxic waste truck, it’s safe to say that this is definitely?Daredevil.
Since Woll will be playing Page, we can scratch that character off of the list of characters that Rosario Dawson might be playing. That still leaves Elektra on the table, but I think Marvel will hold that character in its back pocket. My favorite pick is still Misty Knight, which will allow Dawson to cross over into Iron Fist.
The casting for Daredevil is amazing so far. The caliber of actors they've lined up for roles is pretty impressive, if you ask me, especially D'Onofrio as The Kingpin. Rarely do I get this giddy over casting that feels perfect. With the addition of Shinkoda and Woll, Daredevil seems to be in great hands.
Daredevil will be released on Netflix sometime in 2015. It will be followed by series based on Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist, before culminating in The Defenders.
