Just when new True Detective season 2 developments were becoming scarcer than a hillbilly serial killer, we get a whole case full at once.
Firstly, creator and writer Nic Pizzolatto has confirmed that the show will be set in California – although he was careful not be anymore specific than that – and that there will be four central characters, after he stated that there would be three.
He said (via The Daily Beast): “That ballooned a little bit (the three leads story). I would say there are four central roles."
Following the huge success of the first season, which featured Emmy-nominated turns by Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, the second series was always going to be more A-list than the first page of the phone book.
The Wrap, along with many other outlets, is reporting that Colin Farrell is in talks about taking a lead role in the show. Also it is widely reported that Taylor Kitsch is being lined up to appear alongside the In Bruges actor.
Arguably the most exciting news of all comes from director William Friedkin, who confirmed that he is considering directing some, if not all, of True Detective season 2.
The French Connection filmmaker spoke about his admiration for the HBO show’s creator Pizzolatto
He said: “I?am?considering it. I like this writer [Nic Pizzolatto] very much. I've met him, and he's the real deal as far as I'm concerned. Now, all the new seasons are different so I'm not committedthis new season has nothing to do with the last one. Except for him and his sensibility, which I think is extraordinary."
Stay tuned for more True Detective season 2 developments.
