Geek's Reaction: The Ghostbusters Re-Release Trailer

By Danny F. Santos (doddleNEWS)

Who are you gonna call?

If you answered that question with ‘Ghostbusters!’ (the exclamation point is important) then you come to the right place. As you may already know, Ghostbusters is set to be re-released in theaters and a new trailer for that re-release has just been unleashed onto the internet.

Usually with these types of posts, I like to go into a bit of an analysis into the trailer and what it could mean. In this case, the movie has been around for 30 years and is coming back to theaters, so there’s not much more than that I can add, except for this: I’ve never seen this movie in theaters before and I’m dying to have that experience (no pun intended). Check out the trailer here:

The new film has been remastered in 4K (which probably means it has a decade before being remastered in whatever new format they’re trying to push 10 years from now) giving it a new, clearer look at the film that we never had before. I’m extremely curious to see if there are any tiny details in the film that were missed, just because the resolution wasn’t there. It’ll only be in theaters for a single week over Labor Day weekend, just before it and Ghostbusters II get their 30th and 25th anniversary re-release, respectively, on Blu-Ray September 16, 2014.

On the topic of Ghostbusters II, I’d like to point out that it’s still a great movie. It’s not as good as the original which is possibly one of the most perfect films of all time, but compared to most films, it’s up there as a damn fine 2 hours.

The other curious question I keep thinking about is whether this re-release will have any impact on a possible Ghostbusters 3. As of right now, the studio doesn’t want to spend the $150 million price tag to make a third sequel. Bill Murray has pretty much stated he doesn’t want to make a third film, and with Harold Ramis’ passing away, we only have two of the original Ghostbusters left for a sequel. Plus, Ivan Reitman won’t return to direct.

But I’m sure if Ghostbusters does huge business on a weekend that tends to be slow for movie ticket sales, Sony will go back to the well and look at the proposal. I think without Murray and Ramis, you can’t get the same dynamic in a sequel that made the first so beloved, so the only option would be a complete reboot.

Ghostbusters rises back into theaters for a week only starting August 29, 2014.
