Harry Potter became a worldwide phenomenon and both the book series and movies came to a satisfying close a few years back. While the main series has ended, author JK Rowling has continued to expand the universe via the website Pottermore, as well as penning the script for the prequel films, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
Many fans still want more Harry Potter stories and continually wait for a possible 8th book in the series that may never come. While Rowling has always said never say never towards continuing Potter’s story there are still no plans for another book. That doesn’t mean we won’t get a peak into his life post Deathly Hallows.
Rowling has written a 1,500 word short story in the form of a gossip column by Potterverse journalist, Rita Skeeter. The article is set during the Quidditch World Cup with Ron, Hermoine, Ginny, and their families attending.
Harry Potter has been described as just about to turn 34 with wisps of grey in his hair and still wearing glasses “better suited to a style-deficient 12-year-old”. The faux article also describes the rest of them as “no longer the fresh-faced teenagers they were in their heyday” with Ron’s hair slightly thinning, and Hermione Granger who is now deputy head of the department of magical law enforcement, described as still having a tangle of hair.
The story is a thinly veiled critique on gossip columns, who Rowling has frequently criticized for invading the privacy of her and her family. You can read the article on the Pottermore website here.
In another sneak peek back into the Harry Potter universe, the newly expanded Diagon Alley at Universal Orlando has a reference to the creatures who will appear in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Here’s the image from USA Today and a description of it.
Fans know that the world of Harry Potter will return to the screen when J. K. Rowling adapts her book, "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them," as a movie. If you are wondering what the mythical creatures might look like, head to the Magical Menagerie shop in Diagon Alley and peer up at the overhead shelves. Gilmore says that some of the strange looking animals represent the first time that the beasts have been visualized. "It will give visitors a peek at the next wave of Harry Potter."
While no director is yet attached to Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, it’s set for a November 2016 release.
