Disney’s first foray into adapting a Marvel property into an animated film is under way. Big Hero 6 looks at a group of friends who become superheroes in a city called San Fransokyo. Here’s a synopsis for the film:
With all the heart and humor audiences expect from Walt Disney Animation Studios, Big Hero 6 is an action-packed comedy-adventure about robotics prodigy Hiro Hamada, who learns to harness his geniusthanks to his brilliant brother Tadashi and their like-minded friends: adrenaline junkie GoGo Tamago, neatnik Wasabi, chemistry whiz Honey Lemon and fanboy Fred. When a devastating turn of events catapults them into the midst of a dangerous plot unfolding in the streets of San Fransokyo, Hiro turns to his closest companiona robot named Baymaxand transforms the group into a band of high-tech heroes determined to solve the mystery.
JPosters released a series of 6 posters that will interlock depicting each of the 6 heroes which you can see below along with a gallery of all the full sized posters.
While Big Hero 6 is based on a Marvel comic, a lot has been changed — I mean a lot-a lot. Most super heroes in the Marvel line exist in real cities, unlike their DC Comics counterparts, so the big change is moving the setting from Japan to a fictional city called San Fransokyo which is just an amalgamation of San Francisco and Tokyo.
Still, the movie looks like a lot of fun, in that Wreck-It Ralph and The Incredibles?kind of way, which are some of my favorite animated movies. I don’t see why they just didn’t create a film from scratch with the major changes they made other than possibly using the Marvel Studios branding which was no where to be seen on current teaser. Maybe the next trailer will have it?
Big Hero 6 hits theaters November 7, 2014.
