Do you want a fifth Rambo movie? Well, Sylvester Stallone is going to give you a fifth Rambo movie you’ll never believe.
Of course, in reality no one wants another Rambo or a Rocky film, much like they don’t want a sequel to Stop or My Mom Will Shoot, but we’re going to get one anyway, much like a flu jab or a trip to the dentist.
Stallone has built a career around sequels, so it’s no surprise to hear that Rambo 5 is in development, even though the actor will be pushing 70 when it’s released.
The action icon, who created franchises Rocky and The Expendables, will write and direct the film, which will once again revolve around war veteran and one man army John Rambo.
The sequel will be produced by Splendid Film and, contrary to earlier reports from a few years back, will not involve alien antagonists. As if Stallone would consider making something so ridiculous.
In fact, a statement from the production company describes Rambo 5 “as his version of No Country For Old Men.”
Now comparing a Stallone action movie to one of the best American films of recent times wouldn’t have seemed so ridiculous back in 1977, when Rocky bagged three Academy Awards and its writer and star was heralded as the next Marlon Brando.
Of course, as everyone now knows, the Rhinestone star has spent his subsequent career making forgettable crowdpleasers, some of which are actually used in the interrogation of suspected terrorists.
However, while Stallone makes brainless action movies, he is undoubtedly is one of the smartest operators in Hollywood.
Indeed, much like the first Rambo film, First Blood, proved that Stallone could score a hit outside the Rocky franchise. His latest creation, The Expendables, proved he could still score a worldwide hit… period.
And with the third installment crash landing in theaters this August, Stallone is already developing two spin-off Expendables franchises.
The first is the The Expendabelles, which will feature a team of butt kicking females, along with a ‘next generation’ Expendables which, unlike the original series, won’t consist entirely of elderly NRA members.
Stay tuned for more Rambo 5 and Expendables news.
