Loads of news out of the Marvel camp for the penultimate film of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase: Two, Guardians of the Galaxy! It’s just over a month away, but we’re still hearing brand new things from the film so let’s get to it shall we?
Spoilers below!
Empire has released 2 variant covers for their next magazine featuring the Guardians on one (above and to the left) and who they’ll be facing off in the other. Here you get a better look at Korath the Pursuer on the left, Nebula on the right, and the major villain of the piece, Ronan the Accuser, smack dab in the center. You can check that cover to the right. Of course, we don’t see the villain pulling all the strings on that cover, and by all accounts, Ronan works for Thanos, who we glimpsed at the end of The Avengers in the post-credits scene.
Speaking of post-credits scenes, director James Gunn also spoke out about the rumor that Nathan Fillion will be playing Nova Prime in the Guardians post credit scene. Fillion has long been rumored to have a small cameo in the film which was probably shot during the pick-ups. Gunn took to Twitter and confirmed that Fillion has a small role in the film.
"@STARS_TyranT: Are the rumours true that he has some part in the film?" @nathanfillion has a very small fun cameo he did as a favor to me.

Gunn, however, also denied that Fillion would be playing Nova Prime in Guardians.
The rumors of my pal @NathanFillion playing Nova in #guardiansofthegalaxy have been greatly (and entirely) exaggerated. Sorry, humans.

I’m not surprised by this since Nova Prime, while not the most popular character in Marvel, is still a major character in the universe. That’s not the kind of character you can hand over without discussing it with Marvel first.
We’ve heard a few rumors that Guardians could be a one-off and wouldn’t get a sequel. However, back in May, Disney chief Bob Iger thought that Guardians of the Galaxy had serious franchise potential. Marvel Exec. Kevin?Feige, meanwhile, isn't confirming a sequel, until the numbers come in for this one, stating:
There are dozens and dozens of Guardians Of The Galaxy storylines – there’s a group that came about in the ’60s, they were revamped again in the ’80s and they changed into this incarnation that you see in this movie about eight or nine years ago – so there are a lot of other characters and worlds and stories. So should this film work, should the audience come out for this one, there are definitely places we can take it and we have ideas of where we’d like to go with it, but really all the energy goes into the first movie first.
Finally CBM has promo art for the Guardians of the Galaxy wall decals. This is the best look yet we’ve had at the characters in the film. You can check out the gallery below.
