Harrison Ford Injury Will Not Delay Star Wars: Episode VII

By Mark Hodge (doddleNEWS)

The force doesn’t seem to be strong with Star Wars: Episode VII.

First the release was pushed to December 2015 because of script rewrites, and now the film’s biggest star, Harrison Ford, apparently got into a fight with a spaceship door and lost, resulting in a broken ankle.

However, there are some positive developments, as director JJ Abrams and producer Kathleen Kennedy will not delay production as a result of the Han Solo actor’s injury. Also it has been revealed that Ford’s prognosis is good and he is scheduled to return in 6-8 weeks. Nearly 2 years ago, Iron Man 3′s production had to shut down for a few weeks after star Robert Downey, Jr. was injured. The resulting delay was costly, as the cast and crew had to be paid while RDJ healed up.

A source told British tabloid, The Daily Mirror, that we should hear some good news soon.

The source said: “The initial day or two after the accident it was hard to move things around, but now we have had more time we can juggle things, bring some scenes forward and push others back. There are lots of other actors in the movie so it is not a disaster. We are still confident the film can stay on schedule.

“At the moment it looks like Harrison is going to be off set for 6-8 weeks but the main priority is making sure he is OK.”

The film, which is currently filming at Pinewood Studios in London, is a direct sequel to Return of the Jedi (1983), and also stars original cast members Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and Chewbacca actor Peter Mayhew.

Star Wars: Episode VII will be the first of many Disney-produced movies, after the studio bought Lucasfilm for over $4 billion in 2012.

Next up is a spin-off directed by Godzilla helmer Gareth Edwards. And while we still don’t know which character the movie will center upon, although the best bet is either Yoda, Boba Fett, or even Darth Vader, production will officially take place in London once again.

Much like Star Wars: Episode VII, the rumor mill has started to go into light speed with regards to the standalone films.

The latest star attached to the franchise is Robert Pattison, who has refuted claims that he is to play a young Han Solo in a spin-off franchise. Indeed it seems the British actor’s association with the Twilight saga has resulted in a backlash towards the story from the Star Wars community.

A Han Solo franchise, along with a series of Darth Vader films, may be a priority for Disney, quite simply because the commercial potential of both properties would be huge.

Stay tuned for more Star Wars: Episode VII and spin-off news.
