There’s a fine balance between showing too much and showing too little in the trailers you release before a film comes out. Transformers: Age of Extinction has previously released a few trailers which for the most part reused the same footage over and over. Sure there were some interesting new tidbits here and there but they were largely unchanged.
These new 30-second TV spots, however, are pretty much built from all new footage! Sit back and check them out below.
You’ll note that the new trailers heavily favor the Dinobots. They were teased in the previous trailers, but we finally get to see Grimlock transform from a dinosaur — I started wondering if they would have human form or not. I suspected, in all probability that they could, but there’s always that nagging suspicion that Hollywood messed something up in translating them.
We still don’t know how much screentime the Dinobots get, with rumors suggesting that they only appear near the climax of the film. Even so, Transformers: Age of Extinction is set to kick off a new trilogy of films, so we’ll definitely get more of them in Transformers 5.
There’s also more of Lockdown. While most people are curious about the Dinobots, Lockdown intrigues me the most. In the original source material, he’s a bounty hunter that, although labelled a Decepticon, in this film, has no allegiance except to the highest bidder.?Every single mention of Lockdown has Optimus Prime asking, “Who sent you here” and the answer to that is probably very intriguing. I have my own hunches, just look up the original Transformers: The Movie from 1986 do get a rough idea of what I think is coming in the sequels, but I could be wrong.
What we don’t see a lot of is Galvatron, who was built from…
SPOILER ALERT!
… the remains of Megatron, after Prime killed him in the previous film. While it’s the humans who rebuild him, the concept of his resurrection as Galvatron is something that happens in the 1986 cartoon movie. I think this points to who the ultimate villain of the second Transformers trilogy will be. Is anyone else tired of having the villains be Primes all the time? I know I am!
Transformers: Age of Extinction premieres in theaters June 27.
