Guardians of the Galaxy Posters, TV Spot, IMAX, and More!

Is it August yet How much longer do I have to wait before I get a chance to watch Guardians of the Galaxy Amid all of the controversy surrounding Marvel’s Ant-Man, Guardians has been pretty smooth sailing with a great cast and a fantastic director. Even Edgar Wright leaving Ant-Man doesn’t seem to have dampened people from wanting to watch Guardians.

Well, it hasn’t dampened my desire to see it– but I would like Marvel to quench a bit of that. Lucky for me (and you) they’ve delivered some goodies!

In the last few days we’ve gotten 4 character posters for Guardians via Fandango. Gamora, Rocket and Groot, Drax the Destroyer & Peter Quill aka Star-Lord aka ‘who?’. Check them out in the gallery below!

If that wasn’t enough, we’ve also got a new TV trailer. While we’ve seen a lot of the clips in this thirty-second spot, there are a few new bits including what looks like Quill and company landing on a pleasant looking planet.

Rocket takes out a giant gun on this planet and it looks like the rest of the Guardians wreak a bit of havoc as well. There’s also a shot with a beaten up Star-Lord saying “we’re the guardians of the galaxy” with what appears to be Drax’s hand on his shoulder and purple– uh– swirly energy surrounding them. IMAX 3D

When the film hits theaters it’ll be coming out in IMAX 3D. James Gunn has been meticulous about the post 3D conversion of the film and while I still hate how dark 3D films are due to the technology, I think post 3D is the way to go as opposed to on set 3D. The technical requirement for on set 3D is a bit ludicrous and post 3D has gotten way better in recent years. Here’s what Gunn had to say about the process on Facebook:

Just got out of working on the Guardians cut for IMAX 3D and I'm unbelievably excited about it. Guardians of the Galaxy has been planned as a 3D film from its very inception. Yes, if you see the film in 2D, you'll get a full experience. But the 3D experience promises a little something extra. Unlike many directors, I've been actively involved with converting every shot to 3D, making sure it works perfectly for the story and the film, making sure it's spectacular and immersive without being silly, distracting, or overly showy. 3D conversion was once far inferior to shooting in 3D, but over the past couple years new technology has allowed us incredible control over the 3D effects, making it equal to or in some cases greater than shooting in 3D.

As an EXTRA benefit for those who see the film in IMAX 3D, we will be changing aspect ratios throughout the film in a way that makes the experience even fuller and more encompassing. I've personally chosen all the places where the changes occur and, again, I love how it's coming along. The changing aspect ratios in this case are actually a part of the storytelling.

The changing aspect ratios remind me of comic books. As much of a let down as Ang Lee’s Hulk was, I did love his use of different aspect ratios on the screen in a way that brings a comic page to life.

There’s something to be said for posters that are created for the sheer art of it. Something I find lacking in the current marketing of feature films.
