George Clooney and Josh Brolin will co-star in the Coen Brothers’ next project Hail, Caesar. Both stars have worked with the legendary filmmakers before, but never together.
Set in 1950s Los Angeles, the story -- which was written by the Coens – centers around a Hollywood fixer, Eddie Mannix, hired by studios to look after stars and dish the dirt on others.
The Coen’s career is in robust health after their last film, Inside Llewyn Davis (2013), was a critical and commercial success.
Goonies star Brolin’s first Coens movie was the acclaimed No Country For Old Men (2007). And while Javier Bardem was rightly lauded for his Oscar winning performance in that movie, Brolin’s turn as the film’s protagonist, Llewelyn Moss, was fantastic and helped relaunch his career. The actor subsequently worked with the Coens again on the remake of True Grit (2010).
As for Clooney, his assoication with the duo stretches back 14 years, starting with O Brother Where Art Thou (2000), then the underrated Intolerable Cruelty (2003), and finally Burn After Reading (2008).
Hail, Caesar will be produced by Eric Fellner and Tim Bevan of Working Title, which will be the eighth time Joel and Ethan Coen have worked with the production company. Universal will distribute the picture.
Stay tuned for more Coens Brothers news.
