Susan is a keen observer of light and color in our natural surroundings. She paints from a combination of imagination, memory, and the open air. Her work captures the passion of life and the joy of observing nature.
Her paintings are not simply realistic portrayals, but they also invite the viewer on a magical adventure of emotion and mood with her exquisite use of color and harmony created within each piece. The drama and movement in her seascapes, landscapes, and sky paintings transpire through the layering of translucent colors. The contrast of abstractly poured backgrounds and meticulously layered details inspire imagination and tranquility within each watercolor painting. Susan's work, from watercolor, oils and acrylics, demonstrates dramatic use of color and a real understanding of harmony is a constant.
She is a member of the MN Watercolor Society, and has work displayed at Gallery on First, Rochester Marriott Subway. Susan was selected to display her paintings for “Values in Art”, sponsored by the Sisters of St. Francis, St. Mary’s Hospital, Rochester, MN in 2012. She was selected as one of the Artists of Mayo Clinic in November 2014 and again for the Artists of Mayo Clinic exhibit in July 2015.
Susan is also a certified Grumbacher Art Instructor at Michaels Arts and Crafts store in Rochester, Minnesota, and has been painting and drawing professionally for over 35 years.
