There are many people who love art and design but do not possess much artistic skill themselves. Because of this, they may think that they do not have what it takes to work in any type of creative career. However, that's not the case! There are many creative jobs out there that don't involve any drawing or traditionally artistic skills.
Watching documentaries is usually a fun way to learn about something-- whether it seems educational or not. Even though it may not always seem like it, a lot of creativity goes into making a documentary, no matter what it is about.
People who work on documentaries, often called documentarians, can do anything from writing a script to filming, producing, editing, and more. Like many other creative careers, there are often opportunities to move up the career ladder. For example, Clint Stinchcomb was famous for producing documentaries (including Sunrise Earth) and eventually went on to work as the CEO for CuriosityStream.
Do you love redecorating your home or playing games that let you pick out furniture or design homes? If so, you may enjoy a career working as an interior designer. With this career, it's necessary to have a creative eye, but not so much necessary to have a creative hand.
You do not need a college degree to have a career as an interior designer if you want to work for yourself, but one may be required if you plan on working for someone else. If you do go into business for yourself, make sure that you do your research on how to start a small business. If you have not yet gone to college, obtaining a business degree is sure to be able to help.
Once you are hired as an interior designer, or start your own interior designing business, there will be a few tasks that you are likely to have to complete on a regular basis. These include finding and ordering materials like flooring, wallpaper, and paint. Ordering new furniture or buying new furniture is common as well. Some interior designers implement these changes themselves, while others hire someone else to do all the heavy lifting. Sometimes, interior designers will make sketches of where they want the new furniture to go, but if you cannot draw, you may be able to use a computer program to achieve the same results.
If you love fashion but don't have a knack for designing yourself, then you may want to consider a career as a professional shopper or a personal stylist. What's the difference? People who work as a professional shopper can buy just about everything from groceries to presents for other people. A personal stylist, on the other hand, specializes in shopping for clothing for one client and sometimes their family members.
Personal shoppers and stylists can either shop in stores or shop online-- whatever they and their clients are most comfortable with. It is important that professional shoppers and stylists are not only fashion-forward but that they can also stick to a budget. After all, a client isn't going to be happy if they can't afford what their stylist picked out. Luckily, there are a lot of online tools that can be helpful for both professional shoppers and personal stylists. So, even if math isn't your strong suit, you can use these tools to help a client find a suit they are sure to feel strongly about.
Drawing or making art in other traditional ways are not the only ways to succeed in a creative career. So, if you have struggled to master your artistic skills in the past, you may be happy to work as a documentarian, personal shopper, or interior designer. If these jobs don't seem fitting for you, don't worry. There are plenty of other jobs out there that you can use your creative side on even if you haven't mastered the art of painting or sculpting.
