5 Easy Ways to Update Your Bedroom

Think about your bedroom. When was the last time you gave it some attention? If it's been a while, it's time to get to work. Making over a space is easier than you might think and it can be so rewarding. Not only could it mean improved rest, less stress and an overall sunnier outlook after waking up each day, your bedroom just might become your favorite room in the entire house as well. If you're wondering where to start, here are five easy ways to make it happen.

1. Give Your Bed a Makeover

Since your bed is so heavily used and you depend on it for restful and restorative sleep, it only makes sense that you should start the refresh process there.

What's the one part of your bed that hasn't been updated in quite some time? Chances are it's your mattress, and there's no time like the present to upgrade. Consider options such as bed in a box for convenience and simplified comfort. While you're at it, don't forget to pick up a new mattress protector and pillows. New sheets in different colors and patterns are a great way to add pops of color and style to your room. Stocking your linen closet with different types of sheets will keep you comfortable all year round, regardless of the season.

Don't forget about your actual bed frame. If it's lackluster, consider adding an upholstered headboard to give the room a warm and cozy feel. If you're up for a challenge, try your hand at making your own headboard.

2. Change the Tone With Paint

Painting is one of the most effective ways to completely change the look of a room, so don't skip this step.

Since your bedroom is a place for rest, selecting a shade to promote relaxation is important. Don't stop at walls and trim, especially if you have dressers or bedside stands that could use a little pick-me-up. A fresh coat of paint and new knobs or pulls is a fairly simple way to bring new life to your furniture while also tying the entire room together.

3. Dress Up the Walls

What you do (or don't do) with your bedroom walls will have a big impact on the overall feel of the space. Coming up with a plan for decorating and seeing it through will help to create a space that's totally unique to your personality, making it a room you love to be in.

What's great about decorating is that there are no limits. Be creative by displaying different objects and textures.

Add shelving to display keepsakes, photos or other items that are near and dear to you. Create a gallery wall or finally invest in a piece of art you have been coveting for a while. You can even try using wallpaper to give the inside of your closet a contrasting feel to the rest of the room.

4. Go Green

Adding plants to your bedroom will not only make the room feel homey and cozy, it can also be great for your health as well. The trick lies in finding the right plant(s) for the lighting and climate of the room, so do your homework before bringing any new plants home.

5. Bring New Life to Your Windows

It's important to think of your windows as one of the bedroom's main focal points. If their treatments are outdated, covered in dust or just not your style, it's time to make a change.

While window treatments are generally expensive, there are ways to upgrade without blowing your budget. If you have more leeway, explore the many options available. No matter what you end up doing, you're guaranteed a positive change.

Remember to wash your windows regularly, both inside and outside. You'll be surprised how much brighter the room is when the glass is clean.
