We have reported that Warner Bros. has officially announced the title for the upcoming Batman/Superman film (as seen in photo 1) and it’s Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. Since this is one of my Geek’s Reaction articles I also get to say stuff like “it’s a very, very dumb title”.
But we’ll get to that in a moment.
There have also been a few interesting tidbits of news this week for SvB:DoJ (see? Even the abbreviation is dumb), and first up we have a first look at Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman. Yes, she’s just wearing a blue dress and not the WW outfit (as seen in photos 2 - 3).
Still, you get a few hints as to what Wonder Woman is up to. Seeing as she’s in civilian clothes it’s more likely that we’ll see her using her secret identity which in the comics she gave up years ago. I’ve liked the casting of Gadot and the pics show her looking pretty statuesque so no complaints in that department.
Kevin Smith also spoke about the recently released Batman costume and Batmobile on Hollywood Babble-On. The image that was released wasn’t the one he saw months ago. The one he saw was in color– here’s what he said.
As you may remember, I saw a photo of the Batsuit many months ago, and many people asked online, ‘Is that the picture you saw?’ No, that is a very cool picture, but that is not the picture I saw….They put it on a fake rooftop, and they lit it up. But it was in color, and you could see every piece of detail. So I’ve seen some people online go, ‘Why is this f*#king suit any different than the Chris Nolan Batsuit, it’s all one f*#king color.’ It’s like, ‘Dude, that’s a monochrome photo. You know what that means, one chrome.
That’s not a representation of what the suit looks like. So what the suit looks like, and I was always kind of keeping it quiet until they revealed it, but they’ve revealed it. And you can kind of see, and anybody that…you’ve seen some people take the picture and color it online. If you want to see what this fucking suit looks like, you just go to Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns, go to the third book, Hunt the Dark Knight…it’s the exact fucking outfit he’s wearing. That’s why I hugged that guy all those months ago.
If you have a look at the Hunt for the Dark Knight suit you can see it uses a dark blue color for the gauntlets and cowl. Could it be that we’re getting a live action grey/blue batsuit for the first time since the Adam West series?
Smith also has a few theories of his own regarding the number of suits and cars that may appear in the film.
I will put this to you. What if it’s one of a few Batmobiles? What if that’s one of a few outfits in the movie? I suspect that’s the case.
The last time we got a few different Batsuits, that movie ended up being Batman and Robin. If there are more than one Batmobile or Batsuit, there better be a good reason than to sell action figures and Sideshow statues.
That Movie Title
Let’s all agree that Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice is an awful title. It’s like the powers that be had no idea what to call it so they called it everything. The ‘V’ in the title makes it look like Batman 5: Superman: Dawn of Justice– what’s wrong with vs. or even versus?
The Dawn of Justice subtitle is kind of useless. We get it, this is the movie before the Justice League film but there is something to be said about subtlety. It also makes me feel like Warner Bros. and DC Comics are saying “you know that Justice League movie you’ve been waiting to see? This isn’t it, but watch it because it’s the movie BEFORE the Justice League movie!.”
Honestly, just call the movie Batman/Superman. It’s simple, direct and it focuses on the movie that’s coming out, not the next one. You also lose the b-movie feel of Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. If they’re so insistent on the Dawn of Justice subtitle, then just scrap Batman and Superman from the title!
Please Warner Bros. and DC, change your minds on this awful, awful title.
Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice premieres May 6, 2016.
