DRAW OUT! Arts Festival

Huntington, NY – Get ready to DRAW OUT! The Heckscher Museum of Art in Huntington invites all ages to the Museum and outside in beautiful Heckscher Park during this lively, free community event. Now in its 9th year, artists’ demonstrations, performances, games and hands-on activities will inspire fun and creativity! Sunday, September 24, 2017, 12 to 4 PM
Try your hand at live figure drawing lead by Long Island’s renowned artist Christian White; create an “I Care” masterpiece and poem with author and cartoonist Paul Rodriguez; and join artist Doug Reina Plein Air painting by Heckscher Pond. Meet Long Island artist Lisa Breslow, whose work is featured in the Museum’s exhibit Ebb & Flow: Seascapes and Shoreline Views. Enjoy performances by singer-songwriter Kirsten Maxwell and The Huntington Center for Performing Arts. Play larger-than-life chess and checkers with Your Move Chess & Games. Engage in hands-on projects with participating cultural organizations and meet other Long Island artists.
Public funding provided by Suffolk County. Sponsor New York Life Insurance Co. will provide identification cards through its Child ID Program. Presenting sponsors Grumbacher, KOH-I-NOOR, and the thalo.com artist community will offer complimentary artist gift bags to visitors while supplies last.
The Heckscher Museum welcomes nine local organizations to DRAW OUT! each offering engaging crafts, games, and projects for kids and families. Participating organizations include: Art League of Long Island (painting, drawing); CHS Whaling Museum (hands-on activities); Huntington Art Center (children’s stick frames and adult mat cutting); Huntington Arts Council (Mancala game); Huntington Center for Performing Arts (music demonstration); Huntington Fine Arts (portrait, landscape and children’s art demonstration); The Huntington Public Library (various fun activities); The Spirit of Huntington Art Center (various hands-on art projects); Walt Whitman Birthplace Association (historic 19th century children’s games).
Heckscher Museum offers “Moving to the Rhythm” 3D drawing activity; a Letter Art craft; Plein Air watercolor painting in the park, face painting and much more!
Admission to The Heckscher Museum is free during DRAW OUT! Exhibitions on view are Ebb & Flow: Seascape and Shoreline Views and Art of Narrative: Timeless Tales and Visual Vignettes. Docents will be available in the galleries.
