Huntington, NY –Tranquil waves and calm waters or tempestuous storms with sea monsters and shipwrecks, coastline images have always captured the imagination of artists. Ebb & Flow: Seascape and Shoreline Views at The Heckscher Museum of Art illustrates this timeless subject in a noteworthy new exhibition. This is the first time the Museum has dedicated an entire exhibit to seascapes from its distinguished Permanent Collection. On view August 5 to November 12, 2017.
Modernist painter Helen Torr, found inspiration living on the North Shore in works like Oyster Stakes.
Ebb & Flow features over 55 paintings, prints, and photographs depicting both traditional scenes as well as abstract works of light and color. From Long Island shores to Venice’s Grand Canal, these images capture the ever-changing weather and skies of coastlines and waterways.
Ebb & Flow includes works by artists Reynolds Beal, Eugene Boudin, Alfred Thompson Bricher, Stan Brodsky, Arthur Dove, Edward and Thomas Moran, Roy Nicholson, Jules Olitski, Betty Parsons, Maurice Prendergast, and William Trost Richards.
