MIAMI, FL -- It’s that time of year again when Art Basel showcases inimitable works of art from all over the world in the chic art-deco buildings of glittering Miami.
Last year’s show drew more than 73,000 visitors. Notable highlights include the introduction of the Art Basel Vernissage, a VIP Preview for art connoisseurs; Miley Cyrus serenading Jeffrey Deitch’s private party; film director Baz Luhrmann‘s exhibition "A Kid Could Do That!”; Louis Vuitton’s interior and fashion design exhibit; a Barbie-themed bash; more than 250 different galleries exhibiting within the Miami Beach Convention Center; and innumerable pop-up shows. Even more visitors are expected to feast their eyes on the offerings this year of 267 leading international galleries from 32 countries worldwide. Galleries is the foremost sector of the show, curating preeminent paintings, sculptures, drawings, installations, photography, and videos.
This will be the first Art Basel event for the newly appointed Director Americas, Noah Horowitz, who is united in leadership with Art Basel's Global Director Marc Spiegler. I will be personally covering the event, for thalo, on Saturday and Sunday, December 5 and 6, 2015, and am looking forward to seeing the enormous array of creme de la creme artwork such as paintings by Pablo Picasso, Andy Warhol, and Juame Plensa in Richard Gray’s Gallery, Nicholas Baume’s latest PUBLIC exhibition of sculptures and installations in Collins Park, and watching the ‘Our Hidden Futures’ short film series about a diverse group of artists, projected on the 7,000-square-foot outdoor screen wall of the New World Center. Concurrent art exhibits in Wynwood, Midtown, and the Miami Design District I intend to catch include legendary Alex Grey and the Moshka Art Collective, Neo Renaissance artist Carol Prusa who draws on spheres with silver point, then punctuates patterns of light using fiber optics, and GAB STUDIOS “Modern Times” series. Homegrown Miami Sweetheart of Art, Kazilla, will be painting many murals in Wynwood, including RHouse. She just finished her latest mural for Aloft Miami, a hotel in Brickell.
Art Basel Miami Beach (ABMB) can be enjoyed at the Miami Beach Convention Center from Thursday, December 3rd, to Sunday, December 6th, 2015.
