Comic Book Powers Coming To PlayStation Network, From David Slade

By Mark Hodge (doddleNEWS)

The world of entertainment, in particular television, is evolving and moving faster than a superhero jacked on blue meth.

Following the success of Netflix, and other on-demand providers, Sony is currently developing original ‘television’ shows for their hugely successful games console, PlayStation.

Deadline has reported that director David Slade (30 Days of Night) will direct the first two episodes of Powers, which is a live-action adaptation of Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming's comic book. The Hard Candy helmer has also worked with Sony to develop the style of the show, which will center on two detectives, Christian Walker and Deena Pilgrim, who are tasked with investigating superhero related murders.

Slade is no stranger to the small screen, having directed an episode of Breaking Bad, as well as being involved in NBC’s Hannibal.

Microsoft, whose rival console XBox has been a veritable jewel in the damaged crown of the software giant, is also developing original television content. Similarly to Sony, Microsoft is creating a raft of youth-orientated shows, including a live action version of video game Halo, which Steven Spielberg is producing.

As for Powers, it was previously being housed at the FX network, before being picked up by Sony. So while the internet has fragmented the entertainment industry, there seems to be even more choice and variety for audiences, and even more opportunity for original shows and talented writers/directors.

Powers is set to launch in December 2014.
