Jurassic World was a film I was really looking forward to, until elements of the plot were leaked onto the internet. Some of the plot points made me pause, and I started thinking they may have jumped the shark (or the mosasaurus), in terms of story telling. You can read about those rumors here, but be warned, there are spoilers (obviously).
I wasn’t the only one who wasn’t pleased about the rumors, the general consensus on the internet was “What the hell are they thinking”. In fact, director Colin Trevorrow had to do some damage control in an interview. You can see what he said here… again, there be spoilers.
While his comments put me a little more at ease about the film, I’m still somewhat wary about what could go wrong by trading story for spectacle. Trevorrow has now taken to Twitter to tease the dinosaurs in Jurassic World – and what a tease it is! Here it is in all it’s glory.
Spoilers ahead!
It’s hard to gauge what dinosaur that is from just that image — but I’m going to try anyway.
Going by the head shape, it’s almost definitely not a tyrannosaurus rex. It could be a velociraptor but the teeth look wrong. Oddly enough, the shape of the head reminds me of the spinosaurus from Jurassic Park III, but there hasn’t been a work about that dinosaur popping up in this film.
From the leaked images of the Jurassic World map, we know that the sea-based mosasaurus does appear in this film. Going by artist renditions of the mosasaurus, I think that’s what we’re looking at, especially since there appears to be puddles everywhere. I doubt we’d see anything about the tyraptocuttlesnake rex just yet even as a silhouette.
Comingsoon.net also revealed some artwork from the film featured at the Licensing Expo in Las Vegas this week. You can see the mosasaurus in the art with a tagline “it’s feeding time,” and has a similar outline to the tweeted image silhouette. Check out that image below.
Jurassic World stomps into theaters June 12, 2015.
